Sita's abduction re-imagined – a Singapore review
On 28 Feb 2020, Singapore music lovers were treated to a retelling of Adeline Wong’s 2007 piece ‘Empunya Yang beroleh Sita Dewi’ (He who possesses Sita Dewi). First commissioned by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra at the time for a half-hour performance by the full orchestra with wayang kulit, Empunya Yang beroleh Sita Dewi added yet another modern commentary into the classic Ramayana. New Zealand shifts ACL and ISCM festivals to 2022
UPDATED : The Composers Association of New Zealand (CANZ) hosts the next ACL festival in Christchurch. Originally scheduled in April 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has forced the event to be moved to 2022. Originally, it was to run from Monday 27th April, till the evening of Saturday 2nd May. MCC launches country's first ever piano anthology
The piano is one of Malaysia's most popular classical instruments, with tens of thousands learning the instrument every year. It is no surprise that piano compositions thus form the bedrock of the country's new music scene. From water to wind chimes: Sameul Cho and Lee Chie Tsang's Free Hand commissions
Young Malaysian composer Samuel Cho, who lives in Germany, is busy at work with his new commission for the upcoming UCSI Piano Festival 2020. The young pianist composer reports, "The commission work is coming along very nicely. The draft is finished and I'm in the notational process right now. I've already given it a title.
