Call: SPECTRA 2016 music tech fest next September
For the second time, the Faculty of Music UiTM will be organising Malaysia Music Technology Festival - SPECTRA 2016 supported by the Goethe Institut Kuala Lumpur. SPECTRA 2016 is a biennial event which will be held on 24th-25th September 2016 at Whitebox Publika Solaris Dutamas Kuala Lumpur.
Young composer Sayyid takes 'journey of life' to Manila's ACL Festival
KL-born Sayyid Shafiee will represent Malaysia at the young composers competition at the ACL Manila festival that starts on 6 Nov 2015. Sayyid, who is currently doing his masters at the Birmingham Conservatory, said he is excited to attend the festival as it is a "chance of a lifetime". Likha-Likas: ACL Festival in Manila this November
Manila hosts the 33rd ACL Conference & Festival from November 6 - 11, 2015, themed ' Likha-Likas : Reconfiguring Music, Nature, and Myth'. Representing Malaysia at the Young Composer's Prize is Kuala Lumpur-born Sayyid Shafiee with his Jinsei Kouru for trumpet, bass clarinet and percussion. In memory of Jack Body, towering figure in Asia Pacific music
The Asian music community has lost a towering figure in the passing of veteran New Zealand composer Jack Body. He passed away on 10 May in Wellington. News of his succumbing to his long fight with cancer was received with great sadness for many of us who knew and was inspired and touched by this warm, generous spirit. Body was instrumental in embracing Malaysia back into the ACL fold and in encouraging MCC to join as member in 2007-2009. 15 Minutes of Fame compositions premiere in Japan
A selection of pieces for MCC's 15 Minutes of Fame project, drawn from 1 minute piano works submitted by Malaysian and other ACL composers received its premiere at the international contemporary music festival in Kyoto, Japan end of May.
