Free Hand - 3rd Malaysian Contemporary Composers Piano Festival 2023

Malaysian Composers Collective - MCC is thrilled once again to partner with Institute of Music, UCSI University and have their faculty and students perform 10 Malaysian piano works on 30 September.

The 10 composers featured this year are: Fairuz Zamani, Sean Gan, Jellal Koay, Lim Yu Yao, Sebastian Ooi, Sayyid Shafiee, Tai Yun Ming, Tan Jay Tze, Zhiyong Tan and Wan Azlan. At the end of the concert, two composers will be commissioned to write the set piece for the Senior and Young Artist Categories of the UCSI University International Piano Festival & Competition in 2024. There will also be a composers' forum before the concert where composers and performers discuss their creative process through composition and performance.

This year’s Free Hand is special as it will be the first time MCC is in partnership with UK’s Sound World. During the concert, we will feature Michael Ellison’s ‘Interlude on Todi’ as an exchange work between MCC and Sound World, UK.
